Thomas Kohlmeier co-founded Nivalion in 2016. He stepped down as the firm’s Co-CEO at the end of 2023, now serving as Senior Advisory Partner on Public Policy and selected strategic matters.
Thomas started his career in a law firm in 1994 and specialized in litigation, civil procedure and the assessment of litigation risks at a Higher Regional Court. In 2000 he became member of the board of Legial AG, to develop litigation funding as an amendment to the product offering of an ERGO Group company. ERGO is one of the major insurance groups in Germany and Europe and part of Munich Re, one of the leading reinsurers and risk carriers worldwide. In 2008 Thomas was appointed member of the legal committee of BDIU, Europe’s leading association of debt collecting firms. From April 2010 until April 2016 he served as member of BDIU’s executive committee. Before joining the Litigation Funding Industry, he was in private practice specializing in litigation and appeals risk assessment.
Thomas is a law graduate from the University of Regensburg. He is recognised by Who’s Who Legal as a Thought Leader in Third Party Funding and by Lawdragon as an outstanding litigation funder. Thomas speaks German and English.
